Comparing monetary noise values based on annoyance to values based on noise levels
Mikael Ögren ()
and Henrik Andersson
Abstract: Determining the monetary impact of transportation noise is
increasingly important. Several methods exist to estimate the monetary
values. In this paper two different methods are compared; monetary values
based on noise levels and annoyance data. It is demonstrated that using
published data on values based on annoyance gives lower values than what is
the case for noise levels. Using annoyance also puts a limit on how fast
the noise valuation increases as the sound level/annoyance increases. All
comparisons utilizes the standard curves that predict the number of annoyed
as a function of the day-evening-night noise level (Lden).
