Abstract: This paper addresses the debate in the literature regarding marriage type and employment/wage premiums for immigrants, analyzing a cross-section of the children of guest worker immigrants in Denmark. For females, marrying someone from the same ethnic background, either a "migrant" spouse, who migrates for the purpose of marriage or an "immigrant" spouse who has already been living in Denmark, have nio effect on their employment probaility or wages. However, in the case of males, the results indicate that it is important to decompose endogamous marriages and investigate the effect of different marriage types. Marriage to an "immigrant" spouse has a positive impact on employment probability iof males, while no effect tis found on wages when spouse types are treated as exogenous variables.
