Abstract: The Oslo School was a dominant element in Scandinavian economics for many decades. The school contributed both to the development of pure theory and to the political debate in Norway. Without doubt, the attitudes of the school were very positive towards the planned economy and rather negative towards market mechanisms. The article discusses whether the ideas of the Oslo School were specifically Norwegian or common to Scandinavia as a whole. The conclusion reached is that many of the ideas of the School were generally accepted by Scandinavian economists of the period.
